TERMS OF REFERENCE PROJECT COORDINATOR

Reports to: Programme Director

Terms of Engagement: Full Time (five months)

Job Purpose: The Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Director of Programme in the implementation of Resource Africa’s projects and programmes aimed at promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and community-based natural resource management in Southern Africa. The role will involve coordinating project activities, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, in particular AFD, and liaising with partners, staff. and stakeholders to ensure project success, in compliance with Resource Africa’s workplan.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate project activities in accordance with the project work plan, budget, and donor requirements.
  2. Develop and maintain effective relationships with project partners, stakeholders, and community groups, ensuring that their perspectives and needs are taken into account, in particular organise the coordination meetings with RA’s partners in project developments (PIC, etc.)
  3. Ensure that project implementation is consistent with Resource Africa’s mission and values, and that activities are designed to promote sustainable use of natural resources, poverty alleviation and good governance.
  4. Ensure regular and appropriate reporting on project progress, according to the donors’ requirements, including narrative and financial reports (in coordination with RA’s financial manager).
  5. Assist in the development of new project proposals and grant applications.
  6. Organise the meetings of RA’s Board and compile the yearly activity reports to be approved by the Board, ensure any requirement from the Board is fulfilled.
  7. Support Resource Africa’s advocacy efforts by organising logistics and other participation requirements for meeting attendance of RA’s representatives.

Key Competencies:

  1. Knowledge of community-based natural resource management and sustainable use of natural resources. 
  2. Project management experience, including budget management and donor reporting.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and identify solutions to complex challenges.
  5. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  6. Knowledge of international development issues and donor requirements.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and public speaking.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental studies, international development, natural resource management).
  2. At least 3 years of experience in project coordination, preferably in an international development or NGO setting.
  3. Knowledge of the policy environment in Southern Africa and experience engaging with policy makers and government officials.
  4. Experience working with rural communities and community-based organizations in Southern Africa.
  5. Fluency in English is essential.
